The GCSE course........
The course is a mix of practical and theory work and involves looking
at Food as a Material, Food Processing and Product Development.The
course is assessed in 2 ways, the production of a coursework project
and an examination.The coursework is worth 60% of the final examination
mark and involves developing a new product, it is a mix of design work
and practical work.
At the start of the course a great emphasis is placed on acquiring
skills to help in the future development of new products aswell as
understanding the processes which take place during the making and
cooking of food. Towards the end of year 10 coursework begins and most
of the lessons until February half term concentrate on this. From 1st
of March when the Examination Preparation Sheet can be released to
students until study leave begins lessons are spent acquiring the
skills and knowledge to answer the examination paper, this includes a
mix of both practical and theory work.

changes that take place when food is cooked, the nutritional value of
