The GCSE course........
The course is a mix of practical and theory work and involves looking at Food as a Material, Food Processing and Product Development. The course is assessed in 2 ways, the production of a coursework project and an examination. The coursework is worth 60% of the final examination mark and involves developing a new product, it is a mix of design work and practical work.
At the start of the course a great emphasis is placed on acquiring skills to help in the future development of new products aswell as understanding the processes which take place during the making and cooking of food. Towards the end of year 10 coursework begins and most of the lessons until February half term concentrate on this. From 1st of March when the Examination Preparation Sheet can be released to students until study leave begins lessons are spent acquiring the skills and knowledge to answer the examination paper, this includes a mix of both practical and theory work.
