In Year 8 pupils will study the reigns of the Tudor and Stuart monarchs being encouraged to compare life in England under each. Students will investigate key events during the time periods, for example, the Great Fire of London, the Plague and the English Civil War. Students will develop their historical skills through source analysis and enquiry. There is also an opportunity for independent work with a project on the English Civil War.

Slavery is a controversial and emotive topic that students and can both enjoy and engage with. It challenges students to develop their empathy skills and to discuss moral arguments. Aspects looked at include why slavery started, the middle passage, a slave auction and life on a plantation. Students will also be encouraged to investigate the extent to which slavery has been eradicated in the 21st Century.
