Year 9

On June 9th-16th 2008, year 9 students will be taking part in an Enterprise event called “Cobblers”.  They will form companies to design, make and market their own shoe.

June 19th 2008, during the 2nd year 9 induction day at upper school, we will be preparing our students for their Work Experience placements, which will take place next May 2009.  Students will be bringing home the necessary paperwork.

Monday 7th July 2008, students will be following an hour long careers workshop run by Wigan and Leigh College.  This will be organised on a form basis.

05/06/08 Careers Year 10

Our year 10 students have completed their work experience placements with many success stories, and many glowing employer reports are arriving in school.

A group of students combined their first week placement with an additional week in the army, under the strict supervision of Mrs Edwards.  It was extremely hard work, but they came home with a variety of awards and the army were full of praise for all concerned.

Some excellent written work, on the topic of Work Experience is being produced and shown by students in their English lessons, as part of their coursework.  We thought it would be a nice idea to share this and other success stories with parents, so we are trying to arrange an evening when this could take place.

04/06/08 Gifted and Talented Boys’ Project

On Wednesday 14th May a professional dance artist, Jo Rhodes came in and choreographed a fantastic piece with 12 boys from years 7-10. These pupils were selected due to their natural talent in dance as well as their hard work, achievements and dedication to the subject.  This piece will be toured around 8 of Bridgewater High School’s feeder primary schools during the summer term.  The boys will also be performing at our Oscars dance evening on Wednesday 2nd July 2008 at the Parr Hall.  (Tickets available to purchase soon) so don’t miss it!

Here are a few comments from the boys themselves:

‘It has been a great experience choreographing our own piece and working with a professional dancer.’

Dan Robinson

‘I have really enjoyed this dancing experience and feel my skills have really improved after only 2 rehearsals’.

Chris Hammond

‘I enjoyed working with a professional dancer and learning new skills.  I am looking forward to performing.’

Ben Cawthorn

‘I’ve developed lots of skills and moves that make me a better dancer.  To be given an opportunity like this is amazing.’

04/06/08 Gifted and talented Girls’ Project

Eight gifted and talented girls from years 7-10 have also come together to create a ‘Ballet and Indian’ dance piece.  Over the last 8 weeks 2 of Bridgewater High School’s trained ballet dancers; Sydney Cunningham and Hannah Lancaster, have been working with the girls to create the 2 pieces for the Oscars Dance Evening in July.  They have been an absolute credit to themselves.  Well done ladies!

‘We loved this experience.  We loved the music and the style of dance was different’.

Chloe, Charlotte, Hannah

‘We enjoyed doing the two different styles of dance which were both great fun.  We also enjoyed working with people from other year groups’.

Emily and Freya

‘We have enjoyed dance loads, we’ve made new friends, developed new skills and have had a whale of a time.  Thanks a bunch!’.

 From 15/05/08 Headslines

Welcome once again to this interim publication of the Bridge which we hope continues to keep parents and carers in touch with events here in school.  As I write this short introductory paragraph, the public examination season has begun in earnest, preparations are under way for our annual Y.7 residential trip to Anglesey and Y.10 students are enjoying their second week of work experience.  As always, busy times.
